My Instagram is flooded with beautiful images and interviews of Jane Goodall.
She was a hero to me.
My admiration started in Grade 3.
We watched a documentary on her work with chimpanzees. She was just beginning her journey, but already, at the tender age of 26, she was a remarkable woman. She created a legacy one could only dream of.
Hers was on a larger, public scale—one that hopefully will have an incredible impact on the world.
As I rewatched her interviews, the common thread of her positive messages stood out:
Together we can make change.
It just takes one step in front of the other.
Never give up.
Leave a legacy with intention, focused on what matters to you.
You never know who is listening or watching.
It made me pause.
I wondered what kind of legacy I could leave, being in the beauty industry.
What is my contribution?
That’s where “Beauty Is Difference” comes in.
When I turned 60, I realized that much of my time was spent reflecting on life’s purpose.
My daily routine became a half hour of reading positive messages to start my day.
I started “Beauty Is Difference” to collaborate with like-minded people in the beauty industry who also want to give back—emotionally and spiritually.
To take all that we’ve learned and do something good with it.
The power of positive thinking.
As time went on, I started to stall. I questioned whether I was on the right track.
I thought perhaps I should stop my blogs and posts, since so many others were already sharing similar messages.
So I stopped my quest to develop this project of connecting.
Perhaps there were enough messages already about acceptance and understanding as we “blossom” each year.
But you never know where your next nudge will come from.
I was in my local Costco when a customer of ours walked up and said:
“Please don’t stop doing what you’re doing.”
Divine intervention?
The universe telling me to keep going?
Or maybe I just needed to hear one positive voice to remind me.
I believe we all need that.
We never really know if what we do matters.
But I do believe sharing and communicating is essential—it’s how we remind each other:
We matter.
It’s by example.
Today, my example was Jane Goodall.
She never gave up. She just wanted to make the world a better place.
I believe we all have our own way of doing that.
Don’t question what you’re doing—just keep putting one step in front of the other.
Be relentless. Do it for yourself, and the rest will fall into place.
Thank you, Jane.
You truly are an inspiration.
From the little girl in Grade 3,
With admiration and love,
