I read an article recently that asked:
“What’s wrong with the beauty industry right now?”
But after listening to this woman speak—
and sitting with it a little longer—
I couldn’t help but flip the question:
What’s right with the beauty industry right now?
Maybe all of these disruptions, closings, pivots, and slowdowns…
aren’t signs that it’s all falling apart.
Maybe it’s falling into something better.
Maybe we’re taking the industry where it actually needs to go.
Is it too saturated?
Yes.
But maybe that’s pushing us to get sharper, more intentional.
More creative.
Some businesses are closing.
But maybe that’s just making room.
For what’s next.
For what’s needed.
The old way—
the “just do what we’ve always done” way—
isn’t cutting it anymore.
And honestly… that’s not a bad thing.
I think these leaner times are waking us up.
Making us think.
Push beyond comfort.
Take risks again.
Not just for the sake of growth—
but for the sake of meaning.
It’s not just business.
(It never has been. I can’t separate life and work. I’ve tried.)
It’s all connected.
What matters now?
What do we actually need—
in our lives,
in our brands,
in this industry?
All of this—the pause, the pressure, the change—
maybe it’s not a problem.
Maybe it’s the gift.
If we let it be.
