Skin Deep and Soul Strong

Cher was asked by Oprah in an interview five years ago: "What do you think about aging?" As she sat beside Tina Turner, she replied, "It sucks." Tina and Oprah laughed. I was somehow disappointed. It was a moment to make an impact on many of us.

But recently, Trinny London was asked what she thought of aging. Her reply? "Age is irrelevant."

It just doesn’t matter.

Simple and to the point.

If we could just repeat that to ourselves in any moment of self-doubt, how much better off would we be?

I keep trying to come up with a new spin—kinder words—to help us gain clarity and focus on what’s important.

It doesn’t matter if you’re 20 or 30—we are all getting older. And what does that look like? Not—what does that visually look like? But how do we reframe each year with grace?

I’ve said it before—it’s by example. I have a list now of incredible women who, ten years ago, were nowhere to be seen as role models for aging gracefully.

What we are witnessing is perhaps a psychological shift, led by some pretty strong women:

  • Jamie Lee Curtis
  • Viola Davis
  • Kate Winslet
  • Halle Berry
  • Jodie Foster
  • Priyanka Chopra
  • Brooke Shields
  • Cate Blanchett
  • Tracee Ellis Ross
  • Paulina Porizkova

All unapologetically encouraging us to walk the walk.

Observe that with each year, you gain so much more of who you were meant to be.

Let’s rip off our insecurities.

Fearlessly embrace life with optimism and joy.

Fine lines are beautiful, especially when they start appearing in your 30s. They prove you are living a life. Why would you want to erase that?

There is no such thing as an imperfection. Therefore, there is nothing to hide or cover—only to embrace and enhance.

This blog is actually about rethinking skincare. I know—you didn’t see that coming.

Skincare sales are having a moment! But let’s make it an everlasting one—for all the right reasons. Not coming from a place of wanting to change anything about ourselves, but to enrich us.

What if skincare was only about making you feel good?

Not about trying to remove fine lines. Not about trying to slow down the aging process. Not about trying to change one thing about how you look.

Only about making your skin feel incredible.

I believe in the power of simplicity. Sometimes we complicate things. We feel the need to dress it up or make it fancier. But beauty should not be complicated.

Skincare should not be complicated.

Products should be:

  • Nurturing to the skin
  • Easy to use
  • Smell delicious
  • Feel incredible

It’s really that simple.

It’s also about lifestyle and ritual. With decades of experience, you know that if you:

  • Get enough sleep
  • Drink enough water
  • Stay out of the sun
  • Eat clean
  • Exercise

All of these impact your skin more than any product you could ever use to mask something.

Your mother was right—your habits will determine what’s ahead for you.

So let’s revisit why we use and sell skincare. It’s about teaching self-love and self-acceptance.

With love and gratitude,

Vita
